It’s been a bloody weekend of terror in Nigeria — days of jihad, murder and mayhem. It’s Ramadan, and the Islamic State says the reward for jihad is doubled.
Boko Haram has pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State. And they are on a murderous rampage. Scores have been killed in the brutal month of Ramadan.
A homicide martyr bomber blew himself up in a church Sunday in the Nigerian town of Potiskum, killing the priest and four other worshippers. And dozens were murdered as an ISIS jihadist continued its reign of terror. Two bombs exploded at a crowded mosque and an elite restaurant in Nigeria’s central city of Jos, killing 44 people, officials said Monday. Why bomb the Yantya mosque? Because the leading cleric Sani Yahaya of the Jama’atu Izalatul Bidia organization preaches peaceful co-existence of all religions. Yahaya was addressing a crowd during the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to survivors who spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
According to devout Muslims and Islamic texts and teachings, that is heretical. Jihadists slaughter them because they are considered apostates.
Clearly, the Islamic State and its African calipahte is sending new Nigeria president President Muhammadu Buhari, now in his second month in office, a very clear message.
Robert Spencer writes, “32 churches burned in one day, and the U.S. Catholic bishops forbid discussion of why this is happening, and the extent to which it is happening, for fear of harming their self-defeating and chimerical ‘dialogue’ with Muslim leaders. As long as they maintain this suicidal gag order, they bear partial responsibility for jihad attacks such as this one.”
